Kamal Wickramanayake is an enterprise architect and a software architect. He carries about 25 years of experience in information technology. He is mainly into consultancy and training.
Kamal is a mentor and coach for software developers. He assists in the development and review of software designs and architectures. He assists in streamlining software development processes and implement development and testing best practices. Kamal supports employee recruitment activities, performance evaluation and establishment of talent management practices. He guides in business strategy development and formation of healthy organizational management, administration and culture improvement practices.
Kamal received his TOGAF 8 certification from The Open Group in 2007. TOGAF is about defining an enterprise architecture, the major constituent of an IT governance process. In simple terms, it is about systematic definition of an organization specific IT strategy taking into consideration the business, information, application and technology requirements. Kamal is familiar with IT governance processes including business orientation of IT, value realization from IT investments, risk management and resource management.
Kamal has assisted in the activities of Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka, the government agency that looks after information technology matters. Kamal had been a member of a number of grant approval boards (training grants and business start up grants). Also, he had been a speaker, mentor and subject matter expert in a number of private sector engagement activities of ICTA.
Kamal was a member of ISACA - formerly known as the Information Systems Audit And Control Association. He was the President of the ISACA Sri Lanka Chapter during 2011 - 2012 period. He was the Marketing Director during the 2008-2009 period for which the Chapter received the K Wayne Snipes Award for the Best Medium Sized Chapter in Asia.
Kamal has been working with Java Enterprise Edition and open source technologies for many years. He likes Software Engineering Institute's (SEI) work on the advancement of the software engineering discipline.
Until July 2006, Kamal had been working for Virtusa (Pvt) Ltd. He had worked both in the R&D Department and the Training & Development Department. With other involvements, as a trainer, he had contributed to a large number of in-house training programs in diverse areas of software engineering (languages, frameworks, products, tools, techniques, design and analysis, patterns, project estimation, proposal writing,...). He was based in the Colombo Advanced Technology Center, but had conducted training programs in Hyderabad and Chennai offices as well. His work in Virtusa had been recognized couple of times (first, second, third, fourth).
Having received his B.Sc. Eng. (First Class Honours) degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, he had also worked as a Lecturer for the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya and as a Visiting Lecturer for the Department of Engineering Mathematics & Philosophy of Engineering, Faculty of Engineering Technology, The Open University of Sri Lanka.
Kamal is a Competent Toastmaster recognized by Toastmasters International.
Kamal is a Linux enthusiast. He started with Red Hat Linux since version 5 (i.e. somewhere from year 1997). Currently, he mostly uses Debian and its derivatives. He is good at tweaking Linux systems. He has remastered custom Linux distributions for organizations, hacked Linux kernel drivers, server software and application software, worked on Linux desktop and integration with other operating systems in enterprises, customized and deployed diskless systems, worked on auto provisioning and remote management servers, hacked network protocols and created embedded systems.
